Areas of Practice
Power Skating
Power skating in hockey focuses on enhancing a player's skating technique to maximize speed, efficiency, and power on the ice. It involves developing strong, explosive strides and improving balance, agility, and overall skating mechanics.
Puck Handling and Shooting
Both puck handling and shooting are critical skills that require practice and precision. Effective puck handling allows players to maintain control and create opportunities, while strong shooting skills are essential for converting those opportunities into goals.
Game-Scenario Drills
I incorporate a variety of drills in my lessons that mirror real-game techniques and strategies. These drills are designed to challenge players beyond mere repetition, encouraging them to actively engage and develop their hockey IQ. The focus is on applying skills in dynamic scenarios to enhance game performance and decision-making.
Off-Ice Shooting
We will work on a variety of shots and shooting techniques including:
Wrist Shot: A quick, accurate shot that relies on the wrist’s snap to generate speed. It’s effective for quick releases and accuracy.
Slap Shot: A powerful shot generated by a full wind-up and a hard slap of the stick. It’s used for long-range shots and to overpower goalies.
Snap Shot: A balance between the wrist and slap shot, combining speed and accuracy with a quicker release.
Backhand Shot: A shot taken from the backhand side of the stick, often used when a player is in tight spaces or off-balance.
One-Timer: A shot taken directly off a pass, with minimal movement of the stick. It’s used for quick, powerful shots that catch goalies off-guard.
